Recently we went to Las Vegas and Maria was home with Indy.
She noticed him having a seizure, and took him to the animal hospital.
It took a few weeks and multiple tests to finally diagnose him with a brain tumor.
Because we had excellent health insurance for him,
we were able to afford the radiation treatments he needed to survive.
Without those, he would have survived only a few more months at most,
and with very poor quality of life.
It was really scary and sad to see him have seizures, lose his balance,
become too weak to jump up on the couch,
and not even eat his dinner. Matt bought him a ramp
to be able to get on and off the couch.
Each day of radiation, Indy was loaded into a van with the doctor and his staff
and driven down to San Diego to a human hospital that allows pets to
come in for radiation. It is the only arrangement like this
in the entire country. People fly out here from all over to
try and save their pets - we were so lucky this was basically
in our back yard.
Indy's last day of treatment was a celebration! The staff had made him
a little cake with his name on it, and took pictures
for their wall. It was such a relief to be done.
By the end, he knew what was coming each day and he would
hide under my legs to avoid going with them.
He was pretty tired during the process - and he is still on medications today
for swelling and seizures that make him eat more, drink a ton, and have
to go out to pee almost on the hour. It was a challenge to never
be able to leave him home alone - but since the pandemic, we are stuck home
anyways so its not a problem.

Happy to say he is doing well now!!
Hoping he will get off the medications once this lockdown
is over and we can get him into the doctor again.
Until then, we are enjoying having our little buddy
around to snuggle!
